JACQUELINE (Jackie) 1965, traveled through Australia, Canada, USA and Fiji while working as a travel agent in Switzerland. Together with Beat her husband she built the log lodge herselves until the last cabin. She's an excellent Chef du cuisine and creates hearty & gourmet meals for our guests. BEAT (pronounced Bay-at) 1955, was a self-employed computer graphic designer in Switzerland (since 1984) and trains sled dogs since mid 80's. He participated in numerous sprint races in Europe and finished the Yukon Quest 1000 miles sled dog Race among the first Europeans. He guides most of the lodge's trekking, canoeing and dog sledding tours. HOW THEIR STORY IN CANADA BEGAN! Their story in the Yukon started with Beat's training time at Lake Minchumina in Alaska, where he spent four months at a tourist lodge to adapt to the arctic climate and train his leased huskies for the race. He then participated in the 1000 Miles Yukon Quest sled dog race in 1991 and fell in love with this beautiful territory. Their dream to live in coexistence with nature and the challenge to survive in the wilderness without missing some modern comforts began in 1994. In that year they moved to Canada and built the future home and business TAGISH LAKE WILDERNESS LODGE, named after a beautiful, scenic lake connecting the Yukon Territory with British Columbia. The lake is part of the head water of the mighty Yukon River. Besides a few belongings only their eight Siberian Huskies traveled with Beat and Jackie to Canada, where the dogs finally could live the live they born to. Now around twenty pure bred Siberian Huskies and Alaskan Huskies live at the lodge and can be cuddled in the summer and winter. |
